Mason Type Sourdough Starter Jar with Thermometer
500ml wide-mouth mason jar with stick-on thermometer. Purpose-built for sourdough starter maintenance.
This is the jar we include in all our starter kits and bundles — and the one we use ourselves. At 500ml it is the ideal size for regular feeding cycles: large enough to allow your starter to double or triple without overflowing, compact enough to sit comfortably on a kitchen bench or in the fridge.
The wide 86mm mouth makes feeding, stirring, and scraping straightforward with no mess. The transparent glass lets you monitor activity, track the rise, and spot the peak without opening the lid. The stick-on thermometer strips to the outside of the jar and gives you a continuous read of the internal temperature — keeping your starter in the ideal 20–25°C fermentation range has never been easier.
Made from durable tempered glass. BPA free. Dishwasher safe. Comes with a metal lid and screw band. There is also a heavy-duty waterproof sticker included if you want to give your starter a name.

Care & Maintenance
Glass items (starter jar, jar lid): Dishwasher safe.
Silicone items (spatula, bowl scraper): Dishwasher safe. If silicone absorbs strong odours over time, soak briefly in diluted white vinegar to neutralise.
Wooden and bamboo items (whisk, bamboo scoop): Hand wash only — do not soak or put in the dishwasher. Dry immediately after washing. Condition occasionally with food-safe fractionated coconut oil to prevent drying and cracking.
Items with wooden handles and stainless steel (bench scraper, pizza slicer): Hand wash only — the wooden handle must not go in the dishwasher. Wash with warm soapy water and dry the blade and handle immediately. Do not soak.
Stainless steel only items: Dishwasher safe. Dry promptly to avoid water spots.
Canvas and fabric items (bread bags, cloth liners): Machine washable, cold or warm cycle. Air dry only — do not tumble dry.
TPU-lined items (TPU bread bag): Machine washable, gentle cycle. Air dry only. Do not tumble dry or iron.
